South Eastern Australia GFS Forecasts : 48 hours
The forecast Chart covering South Eastern Australia : Tasmania, Victoria & New South Wales shows the precipitation in for the previous 6 hour period from that marked (in UTC time), Mean Sea Level Pressure, and the temperature at an altitude of 1830m. This gives a good indication as to the forecast conditions at around the level of the higher parts of the Victorian Alps and the Snowy Mountains. In turn it is intention is to assist with forecasting snowfalls in these regions given the clear freezing level, precipitation levels, and 6 hourly charts. Bear in mind that the precipitation shown is for the 6 hour period up until the time shown. This means that even if a chart may happen to show conditions to be cold enough for snow and precipitation being present, it may be that conditions may only sufficiently cooled toward the end of that 6 hour period, and in fact some, or even all of the precipitation may fall as rain.
Forecasts charts are available in 6 hour intervals out to 180 hours (7.5 days). These charts are updated twice each day, around typically around 5am and 5pm AEST.
